catch of the day

Oh....Hey perfect boots ever! I love optical illusions. These would seriously  up the ante  to any humdrum ensemble.

this is a mono recording

I pretty much only wear a handful of colors. Whether it's a solid magenta shirt or a mostly magenta floral blazer....you get what I'm saying. So, it totally works out that I've really gotten into monochromatic dressing these days. It's kind of a fun challenge to pick a piece in my closet to wear and scour the rest of my wardrobe for more in the same color family.

baby one more time

How good is this!?
This is a sort of tried and true ensemble. But looks fresh and new at the same time. I'm super down with shorts and tights already, but the length and fit of hers are really great. And of course, the fur is perfection.

Fur Real

Fur fur it's good for your heart, the more you wear the more you...oh wait....wrong song.
But speaking of fur, it was everywhere you looked for Fall 13. I mean, some designers even had fur dresses and fur suits! Which is completely ridiculous and not feasible for us real girls out there....here...there?
There were some fur looks that I got real excited about, mostly because it's fur, and I love fur! The way I feel about fur is the way George Costanza feels about velvet. Most of the looks were just throwbacks from yesteryear, with a modern belt thrown on or in a fun bright color. Which is kind of super awesome, because this allows complete ease to recreate the looks with vintage.
**Oh yeah, I should mention, I don't condone buying new real fur! I only buy vintage fur!**

I've found some of my best pieces thrifting...duhh! You can find some great deals on Ebay and Etsy, especially during the off season. I think it's extremely important to modernize vintage whilst wearing it. It's cute and kitschy, when I see other girls wearing a head to toe look from another decade, but it also must suck to be pigeon holed to a look, and feel weird to try something completely different whenever you feel like it. (cool run-on sentence!)
*Ooops! Sorry for the tangent! *

What I'm trying to get at are some ideas to pull of a new modern (Fall 13) look wearing a piece of history on your back. For example, taking a fur that is a little too long and cutting it into a cropped version. Or taking the long fur and wearing a super sweet modern belt so it has a nice silhouette and flares out a little bit. Taking a white or blond fur and getting it dyed in a cool color. And of course, sometimes nothing has to be done because in it's original form it is quite possibly the coolest thing since sliced bread!
Happy Fur Hunting! Poor taste pun definitely intended! ;)

***Taking your coats to your local furriers will be your best bet, but if you are feeling brave, I have found some DIY tutorials in the interwebz***

Below are some of my favorite furs from Fall 13!

These two furs were found on Ebay and were both under $20! Sooooo good!!

Alex does Balenciaga

Balenciaga AW13:

Well it's safe to say that Alexander Wang did an excellent job for his debut collection under the Balenciaga name. It was luxurious, creative, and very wearable. I loved the natural/organic elements of many of the pieces that juxtaposed the pure elegance of the overall collection. It's funny to feel proud of someone you don't know, but I am, and I'm uber-excited to see what's to come!

I love the layering. Fur short sleeve coat to showcase a treated knit that looks like birch tree bark.

More fur sleeves please! Never thought I would say that...but I'm soooo down!

This is the first time the whole pants/skirt combo has made sense to me.

I never get tired of peplums.

The draping here is awesome.

It's all about the back of this look....and the shoes. Toe cleavage for dayzzzzz!
This will be the shoe of the season. Mark my words.

Super into this print. A cross between coral and thorns....?..or at least that's what I see.

Love this grey marbled print too. And these shoes too!

I want to touch this fabric. Has such a great dimension to it. Ohhh..and I love those shoes too...damn it!

I'm not sure what kind of fabric he used for that top...but it has that futuristic soft stiffness of neoprene with a treatment that reminds me of peeling paint on an old piece of furniture. Which works for me!

White and grey marbled lil chubby fur. *sigh*
